Kapa Haka Performing at Te Papa - April 11 2013

Kapa Haka Performing at Parliament

Te Aro School’s kapa haka group performed at Parliament on Wednesday 28 November at the dinner to celebrate 40 years of diplomatic relations between China and New Zealand. We performed two haka and two waiata. The China New Zealand Business Council invited us to perform during their meal.

The experience we had at Parliament was amazing and the best one yet. This year we have also performed at the art exhibition at the end of term 3; at the central Wellington School’s cultural festival held at Mt Cook School; and the recent year 8 leavers’ assembly. The performance at parliament was more nerve wracking and exciting.

We are a very new kapa haka group and have only been performing together since the start of Term 2. Our kapa haka teachers have been the best. They have been helpful, funny and youthful. We couldn’t be more grateful or wish for better teachers than Ani and Nepia.  Thank you both so much. They have shown us how to be positive people and how to discipline ourselves.
